Beijing, Geological Press, 1977. 4to (25.8 x 18.2 cm).xii, 856 pp.; 253 plates, three folding charts. Publisher's green half buckram over printed boards. Spine with gilt title.

First (only?) edition of a massive work. Written by several experts connected to the Hubei Institute of Geological Sciences, and containing several new taxa. This part deals with foraminifers, brachiopods, molluscs (ammonites, bivalves, gastropods), and land plants. The Palaeozoic fossils are often well-preserved. In Chinese, with Latin nomenclature and author's name. It includes a large literature list. Well-illustrated, but the word "Atlas" does not justify the work, as it contains the descriptions of thousands of species, too. Provenance: on the front free endpaper recto a dedication (in Chinese) to the German palaeontologist Reinhard Wolfart. Inner joints starting, due to the heavy book block, otherwise very good, unmarked. Very uncommon, especially outside China.
