Grandidier, G.
Voyage dans le sud-ouest de Madagascar. Conférence faite à la Société de Géographie le 5 janvier 1900. [AND] Pérégrinations à Madagascar.
Paris, Générale Lahure, 1900. 8vo (24.1 x 16.0 cm). 27 pp.; one large folding map, four fine, unnumbered, phototype plates (one as frontispiece); [AND] Besançon, Jaquin, 1903. 54 pp. Later red cloth. Spine with red morocco label with gilt title. Patterned endpapers. Original printed wrappers bound in.
Both - rare - papers deal with Grandidier's travels in Madagascar. The first paper was read at a meeting at the Société de Géographie, on 5 January 1900, and dedicated by the author to the famous French general, Louis Hubert Gonzalve Lyautey (1854-1934). The second signed, V. Almans or Alman. Both printed front wrappers bound in. The second paper is a preprint or offprint, differently set, with different pagination, of a work also published anonymously in the Annales Franc-Comtoises. There, only the initials, "V. A." are mentioned in the journal's index. We have not identified V. Almans, but he or she was a contemporary of Grandidier. A very good, well-bound item.
