Calcutta [Kolkata], The Asiatic Society of Bengal, 1853. 8vo (22.8 x 15.0 cm). 157 pp. [numbered 179-335]; one plate, one large, folded map. Original printed wrappers.

An important early contribution to the geology of India. Written by the British surgeon, geologist and zoologist (specializing in sponges) Henry John Carter (1813-1895). Apparently, it was also published separately, in 1857. This is the whole Journal No. XIX (Vol. V) of the Society's Bombay Branch, including some unrelated information and smaller papers. Uncut; therefore edges a little bit worn and frayed. Wrappers toned; otherwise a very good, unmarked copy. Not in Ward and Carozzi.
