Paris, various publishers, 1802-1919. Five books, smaller than 6.7 x 4.4 cm. Various bindings.

A fine collection of French miniature books, published between 1802 and 1918, as follows:1. Calendrier pour l'an XI de la republique française. Avec la date correspondante de l'ancien Calendrier. Paris, Janet, 1802. Very small 16mo (6.7 x 4.5 cm). Engraved title: Le Triomphe de l'esprit des graces et du sentiment etrennes avec gravures; letterpress title; list of eclipses, 36 [12, 24] pp.; 11 engraved plates. Original full red morocco. Boards with rich-gilt floral borders and spine; front board with gilt bee-hive vignette. Papier dominité endpapers. one text leaf abraded, from before binding; some wear to spine ends; light staining to first leaf; otherwise, very good.2. Le petit almanach des dames ou mélange portatif de chansons et devises, orné de gravures. Paris, Janet, An XIII [1804]. (5.3 x 3.6 cm). 72 pp.; 12 full-page engravings. Pictorial boards. All edges gilt. In pictorial engraved slipcase (5.8 x 3.6 x 0.6 cm). Slipcase a bit worn and soiled, the booklet itself in a tiny bit so at the two ends exposed, and the book block detached from the covers, but otherwise in pristine condition.3. Fabuliste du Jeune Age. Paris, Marcilly, ca. 1820. (4.4 x 2.9 cm). Engraved title, engraved frontispiece, 96 pp.; five engraved plates. green embossed paper covers; boards with elaborate gilt borders and gilt floral vignette. All edges gilt. Iridescent green slipcase (4.5 x 3.1 x 0.9 cm). Contains five short stories or fables. Some light wear, and ssmudges to the slipcase; the booklet itself nearly completely clean. This title is more often seen as a miniature book, but this seems to be one of the earliest and smallest.4. Petit Almanach postal et télégraphique 1918. Paris, publisher?, 1917. (4.8 x 3.4 cm). 32 pp. Ivory paper covers with bronze 4-leaf clover mounted on front cover. This stamp-sized booklet includes a list of saints for every day of the year, as well as the dates of several eclipses, none however, visible at Paris (this, however, indicates a Paris publisher).5. Petit Almanach postal et télégraphique 1919. Paris, publisher?, 1918. (4.8 x 3.4 cm). 32 printed pp. Small mirror with bevelled edges pasted in. American flag silk-covered boards. Contents similar to that in item 4, published a year earlier, but for this year it records two eclipses, visible from Paris. The use of an American flag may be related to the presence, at the end of WWI, of American soldiers in France, and in Paris in particular. some light wear to the edges; mirror with some oxidation; otherwise, very good.
