Netherlands, ABC d'Uylenburgh, ca. 1950. Folio (32.0 x 25.0 cm). 110 different cards and envelopes, carefully tipped in on ten thin, cardbord mounts. Colour-printed boards.

A seldom-seen example of a Dutch catalogue of printed birth announcements cards and envelopes. This "monsterboek" shows different types of cards, both for boys and for girls, or indiscriminating. Many are printed in full colour, are embossed, or heightened with gold, several include either a small pink or blue ribbon. A few are humoristic ("H. M. The Baby", with mock coat of arms, consisting of a nappy and a milk bottle), but mostly they are just sweet. One sample never tipped-in. Little is known about the publisher. Probably the firm was named after the surname of Rembrandt's first wife, Uylenburgh. Literally it means "owl caste". Dating is based on the fact that a spelling is used which became official after WWII. The book itself, as well as nearly all samples in excellent condition (two samples partly toned). A wonderful item.
