Basel [?], ca. 1875. Albumen print of a retouched photograph, mounted on board with printed caption. Board size 21.8 x 14.3 cm; print size 14.1 x 9.7 cm.

A seldom-seen portrait of the Swiss banker, entomologist and beetle-specialist Andreas Bischoff-Ehinger (1812-1875), who lived and worked in Basel. His collection is now in the Natural History Museum of Basel (Horn-Kahle). The source of this portrait is unknown to us. Perhaps extracted from a local natural history periodical. Print a bit faded; small abrasion to the print; board a bit toned; tiny tears in top and left edge, otherwise good. Horn, W. and I. Kahle, Über Entomologische Samlungen, p. 20.
