[Poissons - fish].
Nuremberg, les héritiers de feu G. W. Knorr, 1779. Folio (54.5 x 38.0 cm). 13 pp.; nine very beautiful hand-coloured engraved plates.
This is the ichthyological section of rare first edition of the special very large paper print for the French market of Knorr's Deliciae Naturae Selectae oder auserlesenes Naturaliencabinet.... It is a rare, truly great and sumptuously illustrated German natural history book from the 'Golden Age' of southern German printing. The nine plates, numbered H, H.I-H.VIII, were drawn and engraved by Christian Leinberger, J. C. Keller, and one by Georg Wolfgang Knorr himself. They are much larger than in Knorr's other works. The last plate shows a seal, which, although largely aquatic, is of course a mammal, not a fish. Last text leaf wanting. All plates clean and brightly coloured. The text leaves are in a similar state. In all this is a splendid set of all the plates. Nissen ZBI, 2227.
