[Paper]
Imitation. Papier à la cuve pour livres et impressions de luxe.
France, AC, ca. 1900. Oblong folio (20.2 x 30.0 cm), with pink cord. Title page, 14 different paper leaves, each with a small logo and number, and one large, folded leaf in rear pocket, with the printed text "Cet échantillon démontre le bord imit. à la cuve" and "Ces papiers sont livrés suivant demande avec ou sans bords imit. à la cuve". Original "artisan" paper wrappers, colour-printed in Art Nouveau style.
A very rare, mysterious, ephemeral catalogue of "papiers à la cuve imitation", or laid paper with a vintage look, several even with a fake 18th-century watermark. The firm's name seems to be AC (logo on front cover), but little else is known about it. This catalogue lacks an address, or any other indication that shows its origin. Wrappers very slightly soiled and with scattered, light foxing; internally clean, unmarked. A very good copy.
