Wien, Alfred Hölder, 1873. Imperial folio (60.5 x 43.7 cm). [iv], 12 pp. 25 chromolithographed plates. Black half morocco over black pebbled cloth. Spine with gilt decorations and title.

A rare book on the ornamentation, in particular intarsia (wood inlaying) of the Italian Renaissance, in an impressive size. The author, Valentin Teirich (1844-1876) was an Austrian (Viennese) architect and art writer. Depicted in nicely designed plates, mostly in brown, black and yellow, giving it a pronounced effect. This is a Publication des k. k. österr. Museums für Kunst und Industrie. Small, neat former owner's stamp of the architect Paul Wallot (1841-1912) and a pictorial bookplate of Jan Wils (1891-1972), the well-known Dutch architect who built the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam (1928). Binding a bit worn and scuffed, but otherwise in very good condition. No auction records could be found for this book. Evers, Ornamentale Vorlagenwerke, 157.
