Eudes-Deslongchamps, E.
Études sur les étages Jurassiques inférieurs de la Normandie.
Paris, Savy [AND] Caen, Le Blanc-Hardel, 1864. 4to (27.60 x 22.2 cm). 296 pp.; three large, folded engraved geological profiles, and 49 engraved text figures, mostly mounted. Later blue cloth with black title on the spine.
Large paper copy of an important work by Eugène Eudes-Deslongchamps (1830-1889) on the geology of Normandy, where he was born. He was the son of paleontologist Jacques Amand Eudes-Deslongchamps (1794-1867). "Around 1856 he succeeded his father as professor of zoology at the faculty of sciences at the University of Caen, later becoming a professor of geology and dean (1861). After the death of his father in 1867, he devoted himself to the completion of a memoir on the teleosaurs, the joint labours being embodied in his Prodrome des Téléosauriens du Calvados. He contributed several of his memoirs to the Société Linnéenne de Normandie" (Wikipedia). The use of mounted text figures is unusual. The title calls for 47 such text figures, but actually there are 49. Title page partly mounted. A few old stamps in the text marrgin. Some scattered foxing, mainly on the inner and on the folded plates; otherwise, very good. Rare. Cat. BM(NH) 2, p. 547.
