Frankfurt am Main, Moritz Diesterweg, 1896. Large 4to (29.8 x 23.1 cm). Two title pages, 75 pp.; 14 text engravings, four fine, chromolithographed plates. Original printed wrappers.

A detailed and well-illustrated study by the German anatomist, neurologist and herpetologist Ludwig Edinger (1855-1918). This is the Gesellschaft's complete Abhandlungen, volume 19(IV). The title pages are to the part of the Abhandlungen, and to the paper by Edinger, which is the sole contribution to this part. Thirteen years later Edinger moved to the University of Frankfurt which he had co-founded, and which was later renamed Goethe University. "Edinger is credited with coining the terms gnosis and praxis. These terms were later used in psychological descriptions of agnosia and apraxia. Also, he was the first to describe the ventral and dorsal spinocerebellar tracts and to distinguish the paleocerebellum from the neocerebellum (Wikipedia). Uncut. A very good, clean copy. Not in any major bibliography.
