London, the author, 1849 [REPRINT Mergus, Germany]. (64.1 x 49.5 cm). Full colour facsimile.

A stunning, gigantic plate by the famous bird painter and ornithologist John Gould (1804-1881), depicting a bird from tropical America, first published in Gould's famous A Monograph of the Trochilidae or Family of Humming Birds. The caption states Thalusia refulgens, but that genus name is in use for a beetle. This excellent reproduction is faithful to the original in every detail. An excellent, clean copy.
