A seldom-seen, well-illustrated paper, written by the English entomologist and acarologist Albert Davidson Michael (1836-1927). "Albert Davidson Michael was a leading international figure in the study of mites and related organisms, as well as in pioneering techniques in microscopy. Michael was part of the tradition of English amateur naturalists who carried out fundamental research in their fields of investigation and at the same time were busy practitioners in their chosen professions; in Michael’s case, as a solicitor. Michael retired from the law at the age of 50 and devoted the rest of his life to the study of the biology, systematics, anatomy and life history of mites; mostly from the British Isles, but also from Europe, New Zealand, North Africa and elsewhere, supplied by an extensive network of correspondents and collaborators. Michael was aided in these activities by his wife Anne, particularly in the preparation of material for microscopical study and in the rearing of species for the tracing of life histories." (Baker and Colloff). Published in the Society's Transactions,Second Series - Zoology. It includes the description and illustration of several new species of mites. Complete, with its wrappers. Uncut. An excellent, clean copy. R. A. Baker and M. J. Colloff (2006) Albert Davidson Michael (1836-1927) and his wife Anne, partners in acarology and microscopy.
