London, The Palaeontographical Society, 1875-1879; 1881-1883. Two parts in one. 4to (27.0 x 21.1 cm). [iv], 245 pp.; plates [numbered I-IX, 10-40, XLI], numerous text illustrations [the main work]; [iv] 19 pp.; four text figures, four plates [the supplement]. Contemporary red half calf over marbled boards. Spines with five raised, gilt-ornamented bands and two red morocco labels with gilt title. Brown endpapers; red speckled edges.

A well-illustrated work with many new species written by the English physician, palaeontologist and malacologist John Lycett (1804-1882). This is a rare complete copy, including the Addenda and the later supplement. The latter includes an Appendix, and therefore some speak of supplements (plural). Nissen's collation is not entirely correct. Provenance: with on the front pastedown the armorial bookplate of Eton College Museum "Esto perpetua", and a 19th-century printed label "presented by" and the handwritten text, Carol Freemantle. Inscribed on the front free endpaper by the palaeontologist and malacologist Dr Jeffrey D. Stilwell, April 23, 1997. Neatly bound. Some light shelf wear, scattered foxing - more so on first and last text leaf and first plate, but mostly clean. A very good copy. Both the original monograph and the supplement are rare. Nissen ZBI, 2603.
