Firenze [REPRINT, The Hague, 1977-1982]. In 19 volumes. 8vo (18 parts: 23.1 x 15.6 cm), 4to (one part: 29.7 x 20.8 cm). Over 7000 pages and numerous plates (some folded). Uniform full dark brown cloth with gilt titles on front boards and spines.

A complete set of major contributions to the fields of acarology, scorpions and Myriapoda [= Myriopoda], and all that was written by the Italian entomologist and expert on fruit tree pests, Antonio Berlese (1863-1927). Edited and introduced by the Dutch acarologist Leendert van der Hammen (1921-2016) in collaboration with the Istituto Sperimentale per la Zoologia Agria, Firenze. The "Acari Myriopoda et Scorpiones" was privately published in low numbers over a period of more than 20 years. As explained by Van Der Hammen there were many printed additions, corrections and replacements and this reprint is "bibliographically correct". It includes the wrappers, etc. Modestly, Van Der Hammen called it a "working copy" because the plates are in black and white, but this is less of a drawback since the fine, uncoloured details of the species anatomy are very well reprinted. The " Redia" volumes, founded and edited by Berlese, contain a portrait of Berlese and a short biography by Fausta Pegazzano. The "Varia" volumes contain papers co-authored by Berlese and works published in other series (mainly often little known French and Italian natural history periodicals). The second part is in large quarto to accomodate papers originally printed in a larger format. Publisher's price was high. Complete sets are rare.
