Paleontological Atlas of Central and South China. 3. Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
Beijing, Geological Press, 1977. 4to (25.8 x 18.2 cm). x, 332 pp.; 107 plates, four (large) folding charts. Publisher's green half buckram over printed boards. Spine with gilt title.
First (only?) edition of a well-illustrated work. Written by several experts connected to the Hubei Institute of Geological Sciences, and containing several new taxa. This part deals with molluscs (mostly bivalves, but also ammonites and freshwater gastropods), fish, turtles, mammals, and plants. The illustrated specimens are often well-preserved. In Chinese, with Latin nomenclature and author's names. It includes a large literature list. The word "Atlas" does not justify the work, as it contains the descriptions of thousands of species, too. Provenance: on the front free endpaper recto a dedication (in Chinese) to the German palaeontologist Reinhard Wolfart. A very good copy. Very uncommon, especially outside China.
