Vouga, D.
Préhistoire du pays de Neuchâtel, des origines aux Francs. Préface de D. Viollier. Avec 70 figures dans le texte, 34 planches hors-texte et une carte archéologique du Canton de Neuchâtel au 1:100.000.
Neuchâtel, Société Neuchâteloise des Sciences Naturelles, [1943]. 4to (28.2 x 22.1 cm), 253 pp., 34 plates (one in colour), one large, folded, tinted map in rear pocket. Original blue cloth with gilt title on the spine and gilt title and vignette on the front board. Original printed wrappers (of the soft cover edition) bound in.
Written by the Swiss art historian and archaeologist Daniel Vouga (1910-1983) and published in the society's Mémoires, Volume VII. Rare in this "deluxe" edition. The fine plates show artefacts from the stone age up to the early medieval period. There is no publishing date indicated, but the plates are dated 1943. A soft-cover edition is more common. It is quite typical that in this hardback edition the soft cover wrappers are bound in, instead of being replaced. Daniel Vouga dedicated this work to his father, Paul Vouga (1880-1940), who was a leading archaeologist too. Small library stamp on the front free endpaper recto, front wrapper and title, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
