[Naarden, privately published, 1929]. Folio (37.9 x 28.0 cm). Two leafs of text and six fine etchings under passe-partouts, all signed and numbered in pencil, this being #161. All as issued with the original cloth portfolio with gilt title on front.

The portfolio contains six very nice etchings of the Borobudur, the famous Buddhist temple in Central Java. One of 200 numbered and signed copies (this being no. 161) on Japanese paper. Jan Christiaan Poortenaar (1886-1958) went to Indonesia in 1922 and returned to the Netherlands in 1926. "His work was selected for the International Colonial Exhibition in Paris in 1931, which was unfortunately destroyed by fire. ... in the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam, there is a large collection of his paintings" (Haks & Maris). First text leaf a bit foxed, otherwise a fine copy. Haks and Maris Lexicon, p. 212.
