Calcutta [Kolkata], The Trustees of the Indian Museum, 1899-1900. Folio (31.4 x 25.0 cm). [74; (ii), 4] pp., 22 [I-XIV; XV-XXII] lithographed plates (one folded). Contemporary, dark blue morocco over marbled boards. Spine with five raised, gilt-lined bands. and gilt title. Original printed front wrappers preserved.

Important and well-illustrated monograph, in two parts, on an until then little studied deeper water fauna with the inclusion of several new species, and the accompanying part (mostly consisting of fine plates), of the shallow water Echinodermata-fauna. The wrappers have the titles in English ( An account of the deep-sea Ophiuroidea collected by the Royal Indian marine survey ship Investigator, [AND] Illustrations of the shallow-water Ophiuroidea collected by the royal Indian marine survey ship Investigator), however, both papers are in French. Both titles were published under the sub-title: Echinoderma of the Indian Museum. Ophiuroidea. IINCLUDED are two other Investigator reports, viz. on Madreporaria by A. Alcock [title page, 29 pp.; 3 tissue-guarded lithographed plates], and on Decapoda Macrura and Anomala, also by Alcock [printed front wrapper, title page, (iv), 286, iv pp., three lithographed plates]. Both are well-illustrated and include new species. Handwritten index bound in front. Library label on front paste-down, small library stamp on front wrappers, and on plate versos (not shining through). In all a very good copy. Nissen ZBI, 4646a.
