Kjöbenhavn, H. C. Klein [Paa kongelig bekostning], 1841. Large, thick 8vo (25.1 x 17.0 cm). xii, 613, xxii pp.; 25 engraved plates on 24 leaves. Contemporary polished half calf over marbled boards. Spine with blind embossed and gilt bands; gilt title.

A very seldom-seen monograph of Danish beetles, written and illustrated by the Danish entomologist, Coleoptera specialist, and later professor of zoology, Jörgen Matthias Christian Schiödte or Jørgen M. C. Schiødte (1815-1884). This is his first major work. Although stated to be Volume One, this is all that was published. Boards and spine worn, front hinge partly split; binding weak; scattered spotting throughout. Nevertheless, still a good, complete copy. OCLC reports about ten copies in European libraries, however, none in North America. Hagen II, p. 125 [under "Johann Georg Schioedte"]; Horn-Schenkling, 19360; Nissen ZBI, 3676.
