McDermott, L. F.
An illustrated key to the North American species of Trifolium.
San Francisco, CA, Cunningham, Curtiss & Welch, [1908]-1910. 8vo (19.7 x 13.5 cm). 325 pp.; 136 plates. Contemporary if not original dark green cloth. Spine with gilt title. Patterned endpapers.
A well-illustrated, major revision of the North American clovers, with new taxa and new combinations. Written by the American botanist Laura Frances McDermott (1882-1923), and dedicated to her brother, Garrett Augustus. And with on the front free endpaper recto a handwritten and signed dedication by the author to another botanist, Walter Scott Malloch (1897-1980). Of 220 described species of Trifolium the author accepts 52 good species. The numbered plates are printed together with the text, while the page numbering is continuous, and, therefore, the actual number of text pages is 189. Cloth wrinkled, but internally no sign of dampstaining. In all, therefore, a very good copy. Rare. Stafleu & Cowan, 5162.
