A seldom-seen set of all eight parts in this series, written by the British medical doctor, major, and director of the Zoological Survey of India, Robert Beresford Seymour Sewell (1880-1964). Together forming a thorough monograph of the salinity and temperature of the waters around the Indian subcontinent, and as such a basis for further studies on marine environments and their zoology. In fact, the last part of this series forms such a continuation. The parts are titled as follows: I (1925) The geography of the Andaman Sea Basin; II (1925) A study of the nature of the sea-bed and of the deep-sea deposits of the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal; III (1927) Maritime Meteorology in Indian seas; IV (1928) The temperature and salinity of the coastal water of the Andaman Sea; V (1929) Temperature and salinity of the surface waters of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, with references to the Laccadive Sea; VI (1932) Temperature and salinity of the deeper waters of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea; VII (1935) The topography and bottom deposits of the Laccadive Sea; VIII (1935) Studies on coral and coral-formations in Indian waters. Pagination and plate numbering is consecutive throughout the series. Wrappers a bit soiled, those of Parts V and VI detached and chipped at edges; repair to the margins of a few leaves in Part V, otherwise a very good set.
