Neuchatel, Allgemeine Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für die gesammten Naturwissenschaften, 1837. 4to (24.6 x 20.4 cm). Title to the Verzeichniss, title to the Wirbelthiere; 168 pp.; one hand-coloured lithographed plate. Mid-20th-century blue cloth. Spine with silver title. Speckled edges.

Written and editted by the Swiss naturalist Heinrich Rudolf Schinz (1777-1862), but the herpetological section was possibly a contribution by Johann Jakob von Tschudi (1818-1889), a prominent Swiss naturalist. This is the first part of the Fauna Helvetica and all that was published on vertebrates (including the complete herpetology), and all that was published by Schinz. A second part, on molluscs, is not included. The lithograph shows a bird, Anas purpureo-viridis, and a shrew, Sorex alpinus, both described as new by Schinz. Published in the Neue Denkschriften - or Nouveau Mémoires - Band (volume) I. The plate folded, very mildly, evenly toned; otherwise, a very good, clean copy. Rare. Cat. BM(NH) p. 1835. Not in Nissen ZBI.
